The Geodetic Unit works with Engineers and Land Surveyors both public and private to develop the following services:

  • Establishing and maintaining horizontal and vertical control for all Mn/DOT projects statewide. This work is performed to the standards and specifications of the National Geodetic Survey office for inclusion in the National Geodetic Spatial Reference System.
  • Developing and providing technical support for new technology in precise surveying and mapping applications. Survey personnel in the use of precise leveling instruments and proper procedures for the use and adjustment of geodetic coordinates.
  • Developing a statewide geodetic database and providing technical support for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Land Information Systems (LIS).
